The Beauty Supplements I Can’t Live Without

Beauty supplements

Ok you guys, this post has been a million years in the making (in my head mostly HA) but I’m finally going to dump it out of my brain and onto the blog for you all. Because I want to chat all things beauty supplements. Mostly the beauty supplements I take, but beauty supplements in general because they’re getting bigger, better and are really like a big fat insurance smooch for your face.

You see beauty supplements that are actually good are worth the coin. However there are a lot of crap supplements out there roaming the streets, so it pays to know the good from the dodgy. (Like, I highly recommend not buying weird looking supplements off dudes on street side corners…no matter how legit the weird dude says they are!)

Anyway, you guys know I am all about skincare, but honestly I was all about health first and I totally believe the food you eat you become. (So pay attention next time your face turns into a spicy bowl of nachos.) That’s why I’m so down with beauty supplements. The good ones only (not the dodgy ones off weird dudes on the street.)

So what are beauty supplements? Well, lady babez I’m so glad you asked!

You see, beauty supplements are essentially a concentration of essential vitamins and minerals with shiz hot beautifying ingredients beneficial for the fun things on your body, like your hair, skin and nails. They’re designed to supply your diet with things it might be missing. And sure it also pays to eat a healthy balanced, diet – but I’m all for the mantra of taking these as well.

Again – insurance.

Vitamins, oils, gel caps. Beauty supplements are essentially vitamins from the health world now being sold to the beauty world (in prettier packaging) to allow us to glow from the inside out. However unlike many beauty things you don’t really get instant gratification taking beauty supplements. In fact, a lot of them take time (and many of them are crap). Which is why you should ALWAYS ALWAYS research. Plus, they’re not really regulated well.

Ps. highly recommend staying away from anything that contains hydrogenated oils, artificial colours, magnesium stearate, and titanium dioxide. These ingredients are often used as “fillers” to make the product tastier, easier to swallow, or look better.

Anyhoo, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but the wellness and beauty world seem to be merging into one on so many levels these days and I for one am SO FREAKIN’ STOKED. It’s like FINALLY! Because beauty is health, health is beauty and it’s hard to have one without the other. Unless you’re a weird genetic specimen. However, it pays to be cautious of brands re-branding themselves and preying on your insecurities too.

SO NEVER FORGET: CHECK YOUR INGREDIENTS!

Anyway, I hope this all makes sense, it’s super simplified. Also; I don’t take many supplements. Only a few I truly wholeheartedly believe in. I also like to give my body a break from taking them. From everything really, because I believe all supplements, vitamins etc… should be rotated and treated fairly so nobody ever feels left out. Also; it’s nice to let your kicka$$ body do it’s solo thing too every once in a while.

Now let’s chat my fave supplements below.

DMK EFA Ultra – $68.00 for $120 capsules

Essential fatty acids. Your skin needs them. Our body can’t even produce some of them naturally, hence why it’s so important to eat them and skincare often comes infused with some as well. Anyway these DMK EFA Ultra are bomb. Especially as the weather starts to cool down. Essentially this is a supplement that helps maintain skin health by reducing moisture loss and supporting the skin, however taking these will also help protect it against naughty environmental and lifestyle choices too. But what’s in them? WELL, they pretty much contain all the ingredients known to be rich in essential fatty acids: vitamin E, fucoidan (derived from Tasmanian Mekabu Seaweed), sea buckthorn oil, evening primrose oil and even coconut oil!

However, it is the magic fucoidan ingredient that is the star! Derived from the Undaria Pinnatifida species of seaweed, commonly called wakame, fucoidan is unique ingredient that has been shown to inhibit many of the key enzymes responsible for skin damage. But that’s not all, because it’s been shown to have positive effects on: blood sugar levels, blood pressure, liver function, hair growth, inflammation and immunity. It’s also been proven to combat glycation, which affects skin elasticity and the physical signs of ageing! I take two with my breakfast every morning and I am SO good to go. Anyway, DMK are a no bullshiz brand when it comes to amazing skincare. Mostly stocked at beauty salons. If you haven’t tried anything from this brand you need to get onto it – stat. Seriously! To find a stockist call 1300 00 SKIN.

Vital Protein Collagen Peptides – $33.34 (for 284gm)

I’ve banged on about the benefits of collagen before. It is my ride or die and I am always trying new brands. I actually found this brand on IHerb and it’s been my favourite so far. Soooo it’s kinda a little more expensive than other brands but it makes a difference. Again – ingredients! This collagen is sourced from grass fed and pasture raised cows. Anyway, collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and it is vital for ensuring that the health (and strength) of our skin, nails, hair… and even tendons, bones and cartilage stays on point. We lose collagen as we age too, so this supplement is like mega insurance! It’s natural, high quality and sustainable. Vital Proteins also have a marine based collagen for all you vegos out there, but it’s a little more expensive. If you’re vegan, this product is derived from animals so probably not for you. I blend a scoop into my smoothie and if you watch my Insta stories you’ll totes know I also blend a scoop into my coffee with coconut oil and cinnamon every day. So WATCH OUT WORLD, I drink two scoops a day! Anyway, these collagen peptides are super digestible, wont’ go clumpy and can be mixed into any type of drink hot or cold and you won’t taste a thing. If you don’t want wrinkles take collagen. #Collagen4eva!

The Beauty Chef Inner Beauty Powder – $59.95 (for 150g)

This Inner Beauty Powder tastes like berries and is as beneficial for your skin, as it is for your gut. That’s The Beauty Chef mantra – beauty begins in the belly. Anyway, I love this in my smoothies. I even put it in my babies’ smoothies. Filled with antioxidants, minerals and even probiotics it is entirely natural and designed to support efficient digestion (and we all know how I used to get a bloated penguin belly). Anyway, a healthy skin equals a healthy gut and we can’t have one without the other. Which is why I take this every day. It’s super powerful so you only need a teaspoon. Ingredients including organic Maqui berry, chickpeas, lentils, mung beans, rice, linseeds, buckwheat, millet, alfalfa seeds, quinoa, chia, pepitas, sunflower seeds, green tea, ginger, turmeric and more, all super-charged using The Beauty Chef ’s exclusive Flora Culture™ bio-fermentation process. It’s also suitable for all you vegans out there. LOVE!
